ABOUT THE POSTSEASON

The season will close with three all-star competitions:

ALL-STAR GAME

24 players will be invited to play in the All-Star Game.  Players must qualify to participate in this game.  They may qualify in 3 ways:

  1. Merit-based Selections — 12 players with the top statistical rankings in certain categories will be invited to play.  (See the rankings on the Standings and Stats page.)

  2. Fan Selections — The next 8 players who receive the most fan votes will be invited to play.  Fans in game attendance may vote once per game day.  (See the vote tallies on the Standings and Stats page.)

  3. Captains’ Selections — The team captains as a group will choose the remaining players based on a combination of statistical merit, fan popularity, and sportsmanship.

HOME RUN DERBY

The Home Run Derby will precede the All-Star Game.  All players who hit a home run during the season will be invited to participate.

GAME REPORT

August 3

CONGRATULATIONS TO RED TEAM, 2014 CHAMPIONS!

Game 1 — Red 6, Black 1 — In a stunning upset of Black, which had lost only 1 game all season, Red forced a double-header and swept it to claim their second FBL title ever and first since 2011.  (See our History Page.)  The first game was Red's from the start as Griffin Mallonee knocked a 2-run homer in the first inning to put Red ahead.  With sterling defense throughout the game, Red held Black's league-leading offense to a single run (scored by Black's first batter of the game, Adam Cox).  Red secured the win with a trio of home runs in the third inning, including a long ball by Zale Lockwood and then back-to-back home runs by brothers Griffin & Cooper Mallonee.  Griffin earned the game's MVP award for his 2 home runs, 2 runs, 4 RBI, and 2 scoreless innings pitched.

Game 2 — Black 4, Red 5

Black came out strong in the second game, scoring in the first inning on a solo home run by Josh Cosper.  Black carried a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning, then added 3 more runs on a home run by Jeremy Cox to pull ahead 4-0.  Red got a run in the fifth inning on Bobby Campbell's double that scored Cooper Mallonee to make it 4-1, but when two of Red's first three batters were put out in the bottom of the sixth inning, it looked like Black had all but secured the game and the championship and would become the first FBL team to repeat as champions.  However, with a runner aboard, Zale Lockwood drove a ball just beyond the reach of Black outfielder Jeremy Cox and over the left field fence to make it 4-3 and extend the game.  Corbin Tash followed with a single, and then Griffin Mallonee hit a line drive that easily cleared the left field fence for a walk-off, championship-winning home run.  In the day's 2 games combined, Black hit 2 home runs and Red hit 6 (three by Griffin Mallonee), for an amazing total of 8 homers.  Zale Lockwood earned the MVP award for the second game with his 2-run home run, a run scored, 2 RBI, and 2 perfect innings pitched.
